Dido從小就是個音樂神童，10歲時精通鋼琴、小提琴演奏。她的青少年時光便是在偷聽哥哥的唱片收藏，以及和學校裡的古典樂團一起巡迴全英演出中渡過的。16歲時，她深深爱上了EllaFitzgerald的音樂，而這樣的熱情令Dido從一個愛樂者轉變成一個參與者。當時她白天從事創作出版工作，晚上開始和許多樂隊在倫敦附近演唱。儘管她著名的DJ兼製作人哥哥Rollo一再告誡她 千萬別放棄白天的正職，不過她却在Rollo於95年籌組的樂團首張專輯《Reverence》中初試啼聲，演唱了暢銷曲《Insomnia》。

這支樂隊就是以榮獲Muzik雜誌五顆星滿分評價的 Faithless（無信念），處女作在全球各地創下500萬銷售佳績。接下來的兩年中，Dido和無信念一起前往數十個國家巡迴演出，經歷了與以往身為古典樂團一員截然不同的日子。而每當Dido拖着疲憊却亢奮的身心回到倫敦時，她便會著手為自己的創作錄製一些試聽帶。

Arista唱片在97年初聽到了這些試聽帶，並安排Dido在倫敦的Dorchester飯店與總裁克里夫戴維斯見面，過去克里夫戴維斯曾經成功打造惠妮休斯頓、唐妮布蕾絲頓等流行樂團天后。這次的會面相當成功Dido在為克里夫戴維斯獻唱時，這位樂團巨擘甚至還忍不住為她和聲。於是Dido開始展開了首張個人專輯 《（No Angel）無天使》的錄製。

這張發表於1999年的專輯是由Dido與哥哥、Rick Nowels和Youth共同擔剛製作。結合了Dido令人悽絕的嗓音與敏銳的歌詞獨特性，專輯從編曲激昂華麗的首支單曲《Here With Me（與我同在）》、温柔而熱情的《Thank You（謝謝你）》、氣氛深沉且混合多重聲軌的《Honestly OK（沒問题）》，到歌詞中吐露倔强心情的《Don't Think of Me（別想我）》，都展現出她廣泛游走於各個曲風領域的强烈企圖。

Dido的音樂風格多變，具有相當的都會風味，開場時，先是一股電子樂的迷幻演奏，而後她融合了搖滾、另類多重魅力，甚至安排了Bass nova的輕爵士風，另外也穿插了民族味濃厚的鼓聲，製造層次不同的音樂節奏感。
